Growing leadership from the inside out
A long-running program is helping leaders at every level build skills and confidence.
The brief
One organisation came to us with a problem we often see. Room leaders and centre directors were stepping into leadership roles without formal training or support. Many felt unsure about their responsibilities and lacked confidence. The goal was clear: build leadership capacity across all levels in a way that was structured, practical and sustainable.
Our response
We began with a needs analysis. This helped us understand what each group needed most, from emerging leaders to experienced directors. We also identified people with leadership potential who had not yet been given the opportunity to step up.
In response, we designed a year-long leadership program with three distinct pathways: one for centre directors, one for room leaders and one for emerging leaders. Each stream focused on building core leadership skills like communication, decision-making, mentoring and reflective practice.
Sessions were spaced across the year to allow time for practice, reflection and growth. The program balanced theory with action and learning with connection.
The outcome
Over ten years later, the program is still running. Many of the educators who started in the emerging leaders group have now taken on formal leadership roles. Teams are stronger, turnover is lower and the organisation is known for growing its leaders from within.
What began as a support program has become a key part of the organisation’s identity. It is now a pathway for leadership and a source of long-term sustainability.
